Saving Taxpayer Dollars

  • Awarded over $35,000 in various grants to town for stream clean up, comprehensive plan completion and Shaw Bridge improvement
  • Met the challenge of former board financing $150,000 for the town’s reassessment that was unbudgeted, and alarming raising pension and insurance costs and still managed to keep taxes below the 2% tax cap
  • Encouraged volunteer participation for the town website redesign, and action-oriented committees and groups to get more done with less
  • Created 4-5 year long term fiscal management plans
  • Developing stronger relationships with Philmont Village Board to support taxpayer savings for all
  • Voted (both times) to close the County Home Health Aide program, which serviced fewer than 20 residents at a cost of $750,000 per year
  • Created Town Board Liaisons for all departments within the town to streamline communication and effectiveness
  • While Village Trustee, orchestrated the use of nine youth through a free federal summer workforce program, enhancing the entire village, and offering resume building experience to our local youth

Developing Local Business

  • Adopted new zoning code in December 2012 to clarify laws, support Town Comprehensive Plan, and create new business opportunities
  • Visited and met with numerous existing and potential businesses for Claverack
  • Instituted Claverack Economic Advisory Committee in 2010, as recommended by the Comprehensive Plan adopted in 2008
  • Continue to work with local internet providers to expand broadband capabilities
  • Created the Philmont Business Directory, now online
  • Coordinated Annual Business Networking Social while Main Street Committee Chair
  • Created “Why Do Business in Philmont” brochure
  • Wrote the Working in Philmont and Visiting Philmont sections of the Comprehensive Plan

Enhancing Our Community

  • Worked with the County to open up access to the B&A trail off of 9H
  • Had the Town of Claverack website redesigned at no cost to the town
  • Working with State DOT on how to improve the hamlet through better flow of traffic, pedestrian safety and slowing traffic speed without hurting existing businesses
  • Started a personal email list to share information about town
  • Continue to actively work toward and support the development of the new Pine Haven facility
  • Added budgets, tax bills, agendas, laws and other information to the town website for better transparency
  • Instituted the creation of the Historic Advisory Committee and the Agricultural Advisory Committee as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan
  • Supported the enhancement of the town park through volunteers and special recreational funding
  • Actively support the initiative to reopen the Shaw Bridge as a pedestrian walkway and tourist attraction
  • While Village Trustee, negotiated purchase of the Village Green and was point person on opening and program development of the Community Center
  • Former organizer of Community Day and Pumpkin Walk, initiating the Community Day event paper
